The Rise of the Mini-Moon

honeymoonThere are distinct trends in the wedding industry; on one hand, many couples are opting to throw caution and budgets to the wind and throw luxe, lavish affairs. On the other, frugal couples are doing much more on much less than ever before, from DIY decorations and food to backyard BBQs.  Honeymoons reflect these two trends; the exclusive Kauai is one of the most sought after destinations, but where are those budget-conscious couples going?  And how long are they staying?  Mini-moons are on the rise.

According to a recent survey conducted by BedandBreakfast.com, 30 percent of couples who plan to wed in the next year also plan to take a shortened honeymoon.  These “mini-moons” typically last a few days.  Rather than a week +, a couple would take a weekend, for instance.  Rather than forgoing the romantic trip altogether, more couples are opting to take one, or more, mini-moons.  Many B&Bs, hotels, resorts, and travel agencies are taking notice; you will find it much easier to find accommodations and packages for these mini-honeymoons.

Some excellent ideas include short jaunts to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Myrtle’s Beach, or Martha’s Vineyard, but if that is not going to work for your budget, think a bit more locally.  Every area of the country has interesting inns, B&Bs, and hotels; every area has something to offer, whether it is peaceful solitude or a bustling cosmopolitan feel.  You can “escape” without going far at all.  Driving an hour or two can help decrease the pressure on your wallet and schedule while providing you with a romantic getaway that you want.

Mini-moons are the perfect way to celebrate your marriage and keep costs under control.
